Our mission is summarised by the strapline in
our title: ‘a welcome for new arrivals’.
Our goal is to enable new arrival
communities to settle and thrive in Bristol. As the title suggests, EJT
operates mainly in Easton and the immediately surrounding areas, although
some of our activities have reached more widely across the city.
EJT has been involved with people from a number of different ethnic groups.
Our greatest involvement has been with the Somali community. But as well as
them, we have worked with Albanian women, Iranians and most recently the
Roma community, as well as with groups that work across the spectrum of
immigrant communities.
The official objectives of EJT (as registered with the Charity Commission
and expressed in the formal language which registration demands) are...
1. To advance the education of children and young people.
2. To preserve and protect the physical and mental health of refugees and
their dependants.
3. To advance the education and training of immigrants, refugees and asylum
seekers and their dependants in need, so as to advise them in life and
assist in their rehabilitation within a new country.
4. To advance the education of the public in general about the issues
relating to immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers.
5. The provision of facilities for recreation or other leisure time
occupation with the object of improving the conditions of life of those
persons who have need of such facilities by reason of their youth, age,
infirmity or disablement, poverty or social and economic circumstances.
