One2One Mentors

Children and young people from other cultures often find it difficult to integrate properly into full-time education that is primarily in a language that is different to that of their families. The problem of integrating Somali young people into secondary education is aggravated by the many issues of the inner-city. But more seriously than that, many of them come from families who have experienced major dislocation in the recent past. The major cause of this has been the civil war which has raged in Somalia since 1991. With all this in mind the EJT has a team of committed volunteers who personally mentor Somali young people in Bristol.
This programme incorporates many families and provides their young people with challenging tutoring that is aimed at effecting real changes in their lives by providing them with lasting skills that will help them in their education and beyond. We also support a number of adults through this programme, building friendships and providing help with everything to form-filling to English cooking habits!

Tuition for all major aspects of primary and secondary curriculum is provided.
